Combating Allergy Season

"Along with the lovely Spring air we have the...allergies." The Dave & Cindy Show

Suffering from allergies is physically and mentally draining, leaving your irritable and sometimes sad. Allergies make you feel as if you're in a cloud, or as Dave feels "in outer space", but just because you are having a bad allergy moment doesn't mean that it's all bad or a bad day.

Dave and Cindy approach Spring with information on how to combat the bad day from allergy sufferings, explaining in detail their personal tips on how to survive allergy season, especially for our fellow Floridians...

Local Honey...
"We have to thank the bees" Dave

Honey is the perfect antihistamine, it is the quintessential thing to keep yourself healthy, especially this time of year with the pollen. All of the good qualities of the pollen go in to the honey, and by ingesting you equalize your body and do not suffer from the allergy effects. Local honey is key -- the bees are collecting the pollen that is in different types of honey so narrow down your allergy and pick up the honey that will help you get over it.

Foods for allergies...
Colorful fruits that are rich in anti-oxidents such as guava, grapefruit, kiwi, strawberries, tomato, cantaloupe, etc... make yourself some fresh citrus juice and fruit salads. Vitamin C is very important to our health, always. For vegetables -- have plenty of green peppers, broccoli, potato, butternut squash, etc... and keep in mind probiotics -- having good stomach bacteria will flush out the toxins. Don't forget omegas and fatty fish; eating flaxseed every day helps fight allergies.
The neti pot is also an excellent tool for allergies and an amazing way to flush your sinuses. Remember that the neti pot calls for distilled/filtered water, so do not pour directly from the sink. Heat therapy is very important, eucalyptus, and staying in the shower for an extra five minutes will ease the reaction to allergies. Showering before you go to sleep is important so you are not suffering through the night. Humidifiers while you are sleeping are also helpful.

"On a bad allergy day remind yourself of all the ways you are completely and utterly awe-some, talk to people and don't isolate yourself when you are feeling foggy, get an outside perspective, keep it in perspective, make a gratitude list, read the gratitude list, do little things to pep yourself up." Battling pollen and allergies is difficult, so definitely be sure to keep the pollen out of your house.  Keep in mind that coughing and sneezing are a good thing. Keep your windows rolled up when driving and closed in the house. Try your best to maintain great spirits despite the allergies, Dave simply states: " even in your allergy cloud you can come up with some pretty great stuff." Keep your house clean. Eat your vibrant fruits. And remember, HONEY!

And a final quote from Cindy...
